Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST), Saidpur

Department of Civil Engineering (CE)

About

Overview

Civil engineering is considered as the oldest and broadest engineering discipline. This deals with the planning, designing, and construction of the whole world’s infrastructures ensuring environmental sustainability. From huge dams to sky high buildings, from suspension bridges to offshore drilling platforms, from flood mitigation to riverbank protection, from earthquake resistance to environmental pollution mitigation, from project management to quality control, every aspect comes under civil engineering. In doing so, civil engineers shape the history of nations and planning the future.

Civil Engineering at BAUST

As part of BAUST’s engineering program, the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) starts its journey in December, 2019. The department offers four-years B.Sc. Engineering in Civil Engineering degree targeting a definite vision followed by specified missions. The Outcome Based Education (OBE) system with updated Curriculum of the degree covers all the fields within the Civil Engineering discipline and it eventually leads the students to decide their field of choice for specialization. The program starts with foundation courses in basic sciences, mathematics, humanities, social sciences and management followed by core courses of Civil Engineering. Subsequently, major specialization takes place in the fields of Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Water Resources Engineering.

Vision

Become a recognized hub of excellence through producing civil engineering professionals inculcating morality and discipline befitted with the industry, R&D organizations, and academic institutions to ensure sustainable development both at home and abroad.

Mission

Below specified missions are followed by the department to grasp the vision:

  • To ensure a dynamic and student-centered learning environment in modern classrooms with up-to-date laboratories through outcome-based education (OBE) with upgraded curricula and syllabi.
  • To provide opportunities of linking/bridging theoretical class(es) with pertinent real time project(s) and/ or industrial activities.
  • To conduct advanced, inter and multi-disciplinary research collaborating with related industries and other academic institutions.
  • To ensure students’ participation in the extra and co-curricular activities for rendering services to the society/ community maintaining discipline and morality.
