On 13 November 2022, Colonel Prof. Md. Kabirul Islam, a renowned Professor of EWCE Department, MIST, visited the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST).

On 14 November 2022, he delivered a motivational and instructional speech in Dr. M.A.Wazed Miah seminar hall, to the faculty members and students of Civil Engineering department of BAUST.

At the very beginning of the discussion meeting, honorable Vice Chancellor, Brig Gen Professor Dr. Engr. Md Lutfor Rahman (Retired) introduced Colonel Prof. Kabir and highlighted the current activities and future progress plan of the BAUST and the Civil Engineering department. After that Colonel Prof. Kabir took a two-hour discussion part. In his speech he commended the potential of the university and appreciated the dynamic leadership of the VC. He praised the head of the department Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan and all the faculties for being very qualified and dedicated to the department. He expressed his pleasure about existing lab facilities and other departmental activities. He predicted that if the development pacing continues it will be one of the best departments and universities of Bangladesh. He also admired the students’ sincerity, attentiveness and thirst for knowledge.

From his long working experience, he said that the field of civil engineering is vast and career opportunities, like LGED, PWD, BWBD, are very good in our country. He advised students never to be disheartened in professional life and always stick to the field. He put a special emphasis on honesty all through the life to give peace to the soul. He also mentioned that sometimes females will have some environmental challenges but advised them to be calculative and manage those situations accordingly and never feel inferior to their male counterparts. He advised the students to be serious about their studies and attain a minimum CGPA of 3.75 out of 4, to be punctual in class and always take class notes. He also advised them to ask questions frequently which will render the class more effective and fruitful.

There was a Q-A session at the end in which he answered different queries of the students. He informed that the students always have opportunities to join the armed forces and the students would certainly get a priority for their discipline, punctuality and other special qualities which are exercised in BAUST.

Finally, the head of the department Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan concluded the session with thanks to all the participants and also requested Colonel Prof. Kabir to be in touch always with the department.
